In recent years, skull caps and beanie hats have become increasingly popular for use as promotional give-aways and as part of an organization’s corporate apparel wardrobe. We have embroidered logos on beanie hats for state government agencies, federal government agencies, military personnel overseas, and private companies of all sizes and industries. Aside from the fact that skull caps and beanies serve a functional purpose and keep your head warm, they are also considered a hip alternative to the traditional logo baseball caps that still dominate the market.
Typically, the skull caps we use for custom logo embroidery are made of 100% acrylic knit fabric that are very stretchy and fit a wide range of head sizes. They are very well priced compared to baseball caps, due to the fact that most logo caps are made of 100% cotton, and cotton prices have increased tremendously in recent years. The acrylic knit fabric used for skull caps also traps heat better due to the course and long fiber. It looks and feels like wool without the high price tag of wool. However, custom embroidery on these caps is very tricky because of the loosely knit fabric. So be sure to make the text in your logo as big as possible so it will embroider clean and clear.
Occasionally, one can also find beanie hats in the promotional industry made of cotton knit fabric. The fabric used in these skull caps are usually very tightly woven, and therefore pose a fit problem since it does not stretch as much as the acrylic knit ones. For the decorator who embroiders on the products, it is however a better alternative due to the tighter knit, shorter fiber, and therefore better registry when they are custom embroidered. Personally I would not recommend this type of beanies simply because they do not fit most adult males’ head too well. And frankly they are not that warm… I would not buy them for colder climates.
Finally, and by far my personal favorite, are the fleece skull caps. These beanie hats are usually made of anti-pill polar fleece that is extremely warm, soft, and comfortable to wear. In addition, the fabric is a dream to embroider logos on compared to the acrylic variety. They are a bit higher priced compared to the acrylic skull caps, but the value is exceptional considering their functionality and ease of wear. They are also likely to last much longer than the acrylic beanies as well as the cotton ones.
So there you have it. When it comes time to choose a skull cap for your next promotional campaign, keep in mind the difference in fabric among the acrylic, cotton and fleece beanies. Take into consideration the climate the beanie hats are used in, the design of the logo that is to be embroidered, and also the demographic of the target audience. As with any other promotional items, you want to make sure the person getting the skull cap will wear it, and wear it often, so that he or she will advertise your brand or company name over and over again.
